Portia Roy (b. Augusta, GA) is a process and project based interdisciplinary artist. She holds an MFA from School of The Art Institute of Chicago, and a BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art.
My work is rooted in the liminal space between pain and transformation, where grief becomes material, and absurdity becomes a tool for survival. I explore the invisible inheritances we carry and pass down. I work with my hands to turn raw materials into meaning. I spin fiber into rope — twisting fragility into strength — and use natural dyes to imprint the work with colors drawn from the earth, from decay, from life. These processes are slow, intentional, and deeply personal. They mirror the inner work of healing: transformation through repetition, friction, and care.
